In September 2025, the Rotaract Club of Kandy continued its commitment to public health with the successful execution of Project ආයු – Phase I. Conducted at K/Mawussawa Kanishta Vidyalaya, this initiative was launched in close collaboration with the Rotary Club of Kandy to address the rising prevalence of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs), with a specific focus on Diabetes Awareness among the younger generation. Recognizing that long-term health begins with early education, the project featured a comprehensive session facilitated by a medical professional. The students were guided on the vital importance of maintaining healthy habits, such as consuming a balanced diet and engaging in regular physical exercise. By educating school children on these preventive measures, the project aimed to equip them with the knowledge to lead healthier lives and reduce their future risk of diabetes. To ensure the message resonated deeply, the club organized an interactive art competition themed around diabetes. This allowed students to express their understanding through creativity, with winners being recognized for their insightful work. Beyond the classroom, the project extended its reach to the school’s faculty by organizing a dedicated diabetes check-up for the staff, ensuring that the entire school community was supported. Through Project ආයු, the Rotaract Club of Kandy has successfully bridged the gap between medical expertise and community awareness. This first phase not only provided immediate health screenings but also planted the seeds of preventive care, reinforcing the club’s dedication to fostering a healthier, more informed society.
