The Rotaract Club of Kandy completed Phase I of its annual ‘Hands of Healing’ initiative, setting a strong financial foundation for the movement to eradicate Thalassemia in Sri Lanka. Recognising the crucial need for resources, the club focused its initial efforts on fundraising. A significant opportunity arose to collaborate with the MedEx Medical Exhibition held on July 12th and 13th, 2025, at the Kandy City Centre. In exchange for providing valuable volunteer support to the exhibition organisers, the club secured a complimentary stall space, a strategic move that maximised both visibility and profit. Strategic Execution: The team was efficiently divided, with one group ensuring smooth operation of the MedEx exhibition, while the other managed the club’s dedicated awareness and fundraising stall. Awareness & Education: The club partnered with the Thalassemia Unit of the National Hospital, Kandy, utilising their educational materials, as well as club-produced X-banners and a large screen displaying compelling awareness presentations and videos. This ensured that every interaction was meaningful. Impact: Over the two-day event, the stall engaged with an estimated 10,000+ visitors, providing critical one-to-one Thalassemia awareness and education. Crucially, the fundraising efforts were a resounding success, raising the entire target budget required for the upcoming awareness and donation phases.
