In September 2025, the Rotaract Club of Kandy launched a vital initiative to combat digital inequality through the successful completion of e-අත්වැල Phase I. This project was launched with a clear mission: to extend a “digital hand up” by collecting and distributing essential technology to students and individuals who lack the necessary tools for modern advancement. The impact of this inaugural phase was centered on a significant contribution to higher education. The club successfully identified a deserving university student in need and equipped them with a high-value laptop worth LKR 85,000. By providing this hardware, the project directly addressed the barriers that often prevent talented students from reaching their full academic and professional potential in an increasingly digital world. This initial achievement serves as a powerful demonstration of the project’s long-term commitment to bridging the digital divide. By ensuring that financial constraints do not limit a student’s access to information and learning platforms, e-අත්වැල is empowering the next generation with the tools required for both educational success and future career growth. As the club looks forward, this successful first donation sets a strong precedent for future phases aimed at expanding digital literacy and resource accessibility across the community.
