Rotaract Club of Kandy successfully launched “Beyond Barriers,” an inspiring community service project dedicated to empowering the next generation. Held at Dunhinna Secondary School, the initiative was conducted by Major Ravindra Thammita and focused on dismantling the social and emotional obstacles that often hinder a student’s personal growth. Operating under the poignant theme, “When courage meets compassion, barriers fall,” the project addressed the critical need for mental health awareness among school-aged youth. The program sought to create a safe space where students felt valued and heard, effectively working to break the long-standing stigma surrounding mental well-being. The day featured a blend of motivational sessions with expert-led talks designed to nurture self-belief and a positive mindset, interactive workshops focused on emotional resilience, stress management, and the importance of seeking help, and team building exercises that encouraged empathy, unity, and kindness among participants. By aligning with UN Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education), “Beyond Barriers” ensures that education in the region goes beyond textbooks, addressing the holistic development of the human mind.
