Project Kaanum Pongal was a collaborative cultural fellowship initiative conducted under the Club Service Avenue, with the participation of 16 Rotaract Clubs across Rotaract District 3220. The project was designed to celebrate the Thai Pongal festival while preserving and showcasing its cultural significance. By bringing together Rotaractors from different zones, the initiative also aimed to strengthen inter-club fellowship and foster unity beyond individual club boundaries through shared cultural experiences. The primary focus of the project was to provide participants with a genuine experience of Thai Pongal traditions, allowing them to actively engage in customary rituals and practices associated with the festival. Participants experienced traditional Thai Pongal activities such as the preparation and offering of Pongal, participation in customary rituals, cultural observances, and collective celebration in a Kovil setting. The project’s central objective was to the primary objective of Kaanum Pongal was to preserve and revive the traditional Pongal culture by presenting it in its authentic form, allowing participants to experience the festival as it has been celebrated for generations. By bringing together 15 clubs from various zones across the district, the project aimed to strengthen inter-club fellowship and build a sense of unity that extends beyond individual club boundaries. The event was designed as a platform for cultural exchange, where members could share traditions, values, and community practices, promoting mutual understanding and respect. Through collective participation in traditional rituals, cooking, and celebrations, the project also sought to enhance community bonding and social cohesion while creating a joyful environment that supports mental and emotional well-being. Additionally, Kaanum Pongal aimed to demonstrate effective collaboration and partnership at the district level, encouraging clubs to work together in planning, organizing, and executing a large-scale cultural event.
